Nominations for the Bougainville Regional Parliamentary seat is expected to be opened at 4 o’clock this afternoon.
This follows the issue of Writ by Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae at Government House this morning.
The provincial seat was left vacant after Joe Lera resigned to contest the Autonomous Bougainville Government Presidential election in June.
Acting Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai said initially they had requested K15 million from the National Government to conduct the by-election, however, only K8 million has been released.
Meantime, nominations for the by-election close on the 10th December, polling runs from the 16th to the 29th of January 2021, and the return of Writ is on or before February, 19th 2021.
Alwynne Jimmy is the Provincial Returning Officer to be assisted by Simon Soheke.
